Whereas Monthly Active User (MAU) is the key performance indicator (KPI) often used by these social networking sites. It is calculated by counting the number of unique users for a 30 day period. Calculating MAU helps determine the value of a social network site and finds the number of users who have an account and uses it on a monthly basis.

Its website was launched on February 4, 2004, by Mark Zuckerberg. Premium subscriptions can be purchased to provide members better access to contacts in the LinkedIn database.
